Maruti Suzuki recently launched the 2026 Baleno in India with an introductory ex-showroom price starting at ₹5.99 lakh. The updated premium hatchback is expected to be followed by the new Toyota Glanza, which shares its platform with the Baleno and is scheduled for launch this month.
The new Baleno facelift brings changes to its design, features and powertrain. The model continues to compete in the premium hatchback segment against popular cars such as the Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz. The latest update could also provide an indication of the changes that may arrive in related models such as the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor.

2026 Maruti Baleno Gets a New Engine
One of the biggest changes in the updated Baleno is its new petrol engine. Maruti Suzuki has replaced the earlier 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine.
According to the stated specifications, the new engine produces 82 bhp of power and 114 Nm of torque. The claimed fuel efficiency is up to 24.77 kmpl, making mileage one of the key highlights of the updated hatchback.
The new Baleno is offered with manual and AMT transmission options, giving buyers more flexibility depending on their driving requirements.
CNG-AMT Combination Introduced
Another notable update is the availability of an AMT transmission with the CNG variant. This combination adds an automatic transmission option to buyers who prefer the lower running costs associated with CNG.
The CNG-AMT setup is also expected to be available in other Maruti Suzuki models, including the Swift and Dzire, expanding the company’s automatic CNG lineup.
