Vedanta Limited shareholders could have an important update this week. The company’s board is scheduled to meet on October 8 to consider its first interim dividend for FY27.
Vedanta shares also saw buying interest in early trading on October 6. The stock was trading around ₹257.75 on the BSE, up 1.08% at the time.
If approved, this dividend would be significant because it would be the company’s first dividend distribution after the group’s demerger into four separate entities in June 2026.

Vedanta Dividend Record Date Could Be October 14
Vedanta has informed the stock exchanges that October 14, 2026, could be the record date if the board approves the interim dividend on October 8.
The record date is used to determine which shareholders are eligible to receive the dividend. Investors whose names appear in the company’s eligible shareholder records on the relevant date will qualify.
However, the dividend amount has not been announced yet. The final decision on the dividend per share is expected at the October 8 board meeting.
Vedanta Has Paid ₹140 Dividend Since February 2023
Vedanta has a long history of making dividend payment to shareholders. Since February 2023, the company has distributed a total of ₹140 per share in dividends, according to the information provided.
The company has also paid dividends regularly over the years. In May 2022, Vedanta announced its highest interim dividend at that time, amounting to ₹31.50 per share.
Three Interim Dividends Were Paid in FY26
Vedanta paid interim dividends three times during FY2025-26.
- June 2025: ₹7 per share
- August 2025: ₹16 per share
- March 2026: ₹11 per share
Together, these payment amounted to ₹34 per share during FY26.
The company had also issued bonus shares in a 1:1 ratio in 2008.
Around 25.4 Lakh Retail Investors Hold Vedanta Shares
Retail investors account for a significant portion of Vedanta’s shareholder base. At the end of the June 2026 quarter, around 25.4 lakh retail shareholders held a 13.69% stake in the company.
Here, retail shareholders refer to investors falling under the applicable shareholding classification based on the value of their share capital.
The September quarter shareholding data is yet to be released.
As of the end of June 2026, promoters held a 54.72% stake in Vedanta. Mutual fund held around 4.6%, while the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) held approximately 4.55%.
Vedanta Share Price Performance
Vedanta shares have remained under pressure over the recent period. The stock has declined by around 3% over the past month.
According to BSE data, Vedanta 52-week high stands at ₹360.70, while it 52-week low is ₹167.67.
Investors will now be watching the October 8 board meeting close, particularly for the dividend amount and the final record date.
